This edition includes our construction updates, a look at some of our recent events and new materials!

Clairemont, Bay Park and Morena
Construction is ongoing on Friars Road for support infrastructure to move wastewater, as well as at Sherman and Custer streets on the construction of the Morena Pump Station project. For safety, a full pedestrian and bicycle lane closure is in place on Friars Road from Napa Street to the driveway of the Morena/Linda Vista Trolley Station parking lot. Additionally, westbound Friars Road will continue to remain closed through fall 2023. Morena Pump Station construction notices are posted here. In the Clairemont and Bay Park neighborhoods, underground utility location work continues on Clairemont Drive to prepare for pipeline installation as part of the Morena Conveyance South and Middle and Conveyance and Bike Lanes project. Pipeline construction is expected to start in mid-2023 and will include two construction crews.

University City
For the Morena Northern Alignment and Tunnels project, pipeline work is underway along Genesee Avenue from State Route 52 to Governor Drive; this work is expected to be ongoing through November 2023.Pipeline installation at the section of Genesee Avenue between Appleton Street and State Route-52 is complete; the road has been base paved and traffic control has been set back to its original configuration along this stretch. At Towne Centre Drive and Executive Drive, pipeline installation will continue through April 2023. The trench is approximately 20 feet deep and includes installation of two pipelines – the 48-inch wastewater pipeline and the 30-inch brine pipeline.

At the North City Pure Water Facility & Pump Station, vertical construction is underway for the ozone facility, biological activated carbon filters, process area and administration building. Pipelines were recently installed to connect the North City Water Reclamation Plant (NCWRP) across the street on Eastgate Mall to the North City Pure Water Facility. Concrete pours for the secondary clarifiers began at the NCWRP this month. |

Scripps Ranch and Miramar
Nighttime pipeline construction is ongoing on Miramar Road between Carroll Road and Distribution Avenue, and in Scripps Ranch on Hoyt Park Drive as part of the North City Pure Water Pipeline, Subaqueous Pipeline & Dechlorination Facility project. In addition, parking lot improvements are underway in the parking lot at Miramar Reservoir, in preparation for construction equipment staging and construction of the Subaqueous Pipeline.

SD Tết is San Diego’s free community celebration of the Tết Festival. This year’s event was held on January 27-29, 2023, at the Mira Mesa Community Park. The Pure Water team was there to talk to the community about the Pure Water Program, answer questions about construction on Miramar Road and more. Thanks to everyone who came out and chatted with us!

Creating local jobs and putting San Diegans to work is a vital part of Pure Water San Diego. Currently,1,164 Pure Water San Diego construction workers live in San Diego County, and 394 live within the City of San Diego.
Program-wide, there are estimated to be 1,739 people working on all Pure Water Phase 1 Projects. This means that approximately 90% of all construction workers are local to our region!
